Carol and George Tattan - Pillow World

Our Story
After retiring from the corporate world I went back to school to follow my real love, interior design. I have a love for design, color, fabric and sewing. After many years of designing, sewing, painting, etc. for family and friends I now have the opportunity to have real clients. I have been working with clients on a consulting for color, furniture, placement and have decorated homes in the New England area. I owned my own ceramic studio with 80 students but had to give it up due to busy and demanding corporate world and growing family. After working for another woman making designer pillows (this client selling them in boutiques in NY) my husband and I decided pillows could be our retirement hobby. We decided to take on a few craft shows and sell children's 12x16 travel pillows. We were very happy with the response and decided to take on our new adventure.

We both love people and wanted to visit every corner of Maine. After starting with 25 prints we now have over 400 prints including nautical, sports, animals and novelty prints in assorted sizes. After four years of successful shows our hobby became our new business. I have taught my husband how to cut fabric. He also schedules the shows and does the computer work, (our inventory has grown and we have overwhelmingly requests). As of January 2010 we started to take on a new adventure, we purchased an embroidery machine. After retiring from another career my husband took on the challenge of running the machine. Our customers love the idea of a print on one side of their pillow and a name on the other. We can put your child's name (family name, etc) on one side with his or her favorite print on the other. One of the more popular pillows is a lighthouse print with Maine and the embroidery of a lighthouse on the other. Our military pillows have also become very popular with the print on one side and on the reverse the branch name. This new adventure has not only kept my husband busy but has helped us build a successful business in Pillow World. We have become unique in the craft shows. Our goal is to have something for everyone, keeping up quality and customer requests. This business has given us a rewarding future, working together after other busy careers and bringing up our three children. We now belong to United Maine Craftsmen, Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen and belong to two Made in Maine Co-ops, Pemaquid Craft Co-op in New Harbor and Lupine Cottage. We also sell our pillows in Lisa Maries in downtown Bath. We work 20 to 25 shows a year in Maine and a few in NH for Casstelberry Fairs.

Our Pillows
Our pillows are all hypoallergenic pillow forms made in the USA. They are sewn in our smoke free home. The prints we use are made of cotton, cotton/polyester blend, flannel or fleece. Our most popular pillow size is the 12x16 travel pillow but we have a variety of square pillows ranging from 14" to 22" perfect for accents throughout your home. The larger pillows can also be made with sham backs or zippers. If you like change, we offer 12x16 sham pillow cases. Purchase one pillow insert and as many sham prints as you would like. We welcome special orders and can even make you a toddler comforter and valances to coordinate with your child's favorite theme print.
