Meet November Artist of the Month Dianne Horton

Meet Lupine Artisan Dianne Horton A lakeside home in Swanville, Maine has been Dianne’s home since 1971 where she and Dan raised two sons. An Elementary Education degree allowed Dianne to teach for 31 years. She sold her first watercolor painting in 1998 at 50 years old.

She grew up in Saco greatly influenced by her Great Aunt Ethel Wight, artist and first woman member of Portland Camera Club famous for snapping Lindbergh landing his plane at Old Orchard Beach.

The lake, sea and the historical buildings of Belfast have been an inspiration for Dianne. Swan Lake has been a tremendous influence on her daily activities and moods, allowing her spontaneous interaction with her environment. Penobscot Bay is so close to her home and studio that she can easily travel to it daily. She loves the smells of the sea keeping large containers of shells, rocks and seaweed in her studio so that she can “inhale” the aromas of the ocean during the long winter months of Maine.

Dianne can be seen painting “plein air” along the coast often traveling to the local islands. She is well equipped with a fabulous light weight easel, her watercolor materials, large hat, snacks, bug spray and she is always prepared to take a dip into the ocean between brush strokes.

Dianne and her husband Dan travel to juried Fine Art Festivals from Southwest Harbor to Portland from June through through November. See website for schedule. She is represented by Beyond the Sea in Lincolnville Beach.
